Kunratice – Family house II

REALIZATION 06/2008
The two-storey L-shaped house has a basement and a small office on the roof. The ground floor with living spaces is closed to the street and open to the garden through massive glazing. The upper floor private zone with bedrooms for the entire family has a smaller floor plan and is shifted and cantilevered over the lower floor. It is connected to the garden through the living room roof. The rooftop office with a light structure is set back from the edge of the house for privacy purposes. The client was interested in a house in the style of a First Republic villa, without merely being a copy of the original building. The designed house works with several Functionalist principles, reshaping them into a work that is highly contemporary. The house plays with a nautical motif but is bound by a clear line, visible from the south, that runs through the house from the ground floor up to the roof.
