In September 2009, the investor commissioned low-cost repairs with the aim of revitalising the factory grounds, with an emphasis on connecting near Stromovka Park with the inner yard of the factory, and the restoration of the complex in order to unify the exterior of buildings with a uniform appearance. Walls, heating and wiring were repaired and renovated inside the factory building. The layout was opened to allow the maximum flexibility of the interior. Windows were created toward Kamarytova St, and display windows and a new entrance were built. The unifying element on the exterior was the colour black with gold on the windows and ‘black’ sheet metal that will gradually rust and acquire a specific patina. The preservation of the chimney provided a fundamental accent to the design. In the interior it was necessary to ‘help’ several load-bearing walls, which were evidently, from the very beginning of the building, under-dimensioned and overburdened by the effects of moisture. The walls were repaired with standard concrete blocks and using of ‘black’ sheet metal to trim the new and existing openings. Today the building is functionally divided by a floor. The ground floor houses a commercial space with a small cafe and gallery. The first floor can be used as office space or for light manufacturing, while the attic is prepared for either offices or loft living. Various extensions are also envisioned in the inner courtyard to increase the functional density of the entire complex. Photo: Ester Havlová
